“We thank you for supporting us!”

Dear Shining Hope family,

The second term of school is quickly coming to an end (August 21st)—and with it, two of our boys each wanted to share an update with you!

Mark (left) eagerly relates about his first year in high school:

“I am enjoying life in secondary school since we are now treated as grown ups, unlike in primary school. I’ve mainly improved myself in personal hygiene, as secondary, by default, demands for it. Most of the students are on point from their body cleanliness to their always-clean uniforms.

“I’ve faced a bit of a challenge of self-expression as I have the deepest voice in the class. Whenever I am asked something by the teachers, the rest of the students are eagerly waiting to hear me roar. It’s not much of a problem to me, though.

“In regard to my studies, science subjects were already hard for me in primary school, but I am aiming at getting better at them.”

Seventh-grader Drake (right) is committed to passing the end-of-term exam:

“School is honestly busier for me now as we have weekly tests preparing us to answer questions right when the final exam comes. Within this time, I’ve limited my playing time at home as I need to be actively engaged in books and performing better.

“Other than that, the rest is as usual at school. I am working on speaking good English, though this is a tough journey for me since at school, very few of my friends are comfortable using English due to fear of not being good at it.”

So grateful for our Shining Hope family’s support that makes these precious children’s education possible! The smiles of our fifth-graders, Dalton and Ernest, can’t be beat!

PRAISE REPORT from Kalungi!

“One of my big testimonies this year is being out of a court case brought about by dirty deals that caught me unaware of someone I employed. It may not seem as big, but it had stolen away my peace and I was always in a state of ‘what ifs.’ I’m free from it now, and with just a little paperwork to go, everything will be back to normal. Thank you for your prayers.”

In closing, we have a prayer request to share with you.

Justine, a dedicated Christian and loving mother to four children, is suffering grievously from the consequences of the sin of another. We may be taking her children into our home temporarily to provide them with a safe, stable place to live as she gets back on her feet. Mid-August, Kalungi will meet with her to discuss how she wants to proceed.

Please pray for the Lord’s healing in Justine’s life, and for each of her children, Jolyne, Peter, Clinton, and Mbape. God can surely mend any brokenness!

Our children are growing and maturing into the young people God has for them to be. Neighbor children are thriving from the daily lunches and the love they receive at our home. And most likely soon, four other dear children will know the comfort and joy of our big family.

THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts for being part of these children’s lives and impacting them so greatly! We treasure you and your sacrifice!

Much love,

Kalungi + Rachel
