Waiting . . . on God

Dear Shining Hope Family,
“Who am I that God is blessing me with treatment I couldn’t solely afford? Blessings to the people who made this possible!”
This was Nakato’s response upon learning her eardrum surgery had been completely funded.
How faithful the Lord has been! Over the past ten weeks, He has mercifully provided exactly what was needed so she could attend each of her appointments with her specialists. And now He has made a way for her much-anticipated surgery to take place!
Nakato’s specialists strongly believe this second surgery—scheduled for September 10th—will fully correct her problem and restore even more of her hearing.

On August 21st, Kalungi wrote:
“Today the children took off for holidays to refresh for the third term that sees them promoted to another grade. It’s been a smooth term in school for them and God provided for everything to ensure their smooth stay in school. A special thanks to everyone who made it possible for our children to attend school this term.”
Here are four of our proud scholars holding folders with their examinations! All our kids did very well in school!

September 16th will see all our cuties return to school—and three others: Jolyne, Clinton, and Peter!
Recently, their mother, Justine, suffered a great wrong. As she gets back on her feet emotionally and financially, we will temporarily be welcoming two of her boys into our home, Clinton (13) and Peter (12). Her oldest child, Jolyne (14), will be staying with a kind auntie who is eager to help, but we will be providing her high school tuition and books.
Clinton and Peter, below, recently visited us to meet all the kids and to see their temporary accommodations. Their smiles best describe how they felt at the Shining Hope home!
Justine is out of the hospital after needing to be briefly admitted. She is now doing closer to normal, and is hoping to find a job soon. Recently, she told Kalungi this:
“Thank you for your willingness to support me by educating my children. This makes me determined to make everything better for myself because there are people who are willing to be present as I go through this difficult phase.”
Below, enjoy these pictures of the dear ones God has entrusted to our care. These kids are connected by something much stronger than blood—love.
Being each other’s keepers has seen them grow into disciplined, God-fearing young men and women. Even in times of need, they never resort to anything ungodly, but rather to prayer and faith that God has it all figured out.

Mark:

Lately, I (Rachel) have been studying Noah’s life and meditating on the theme of waiting. Regarding Shining Hope, we have been waiting for our connections and social media reach to grow. We have been waiting for Kalungi’s land trial to be over. We have been waiting for the time we aren’t living donation to donation.
We all have things we’re waiting for.
But what we’re really doing is we’re waiting on God.
During this time of waiting . . . and working, we are so very grateful the Lord has put you in our lives. He continues to use you in powerful ways to bring His love to a hurting world. Thank you so much for your generosity!
Whatever situation you may be facing today, may the Lord strengthen you as you wait with eyes of faith fixed on Him.
Much love,
Kalungi + Rachel
