Dear Shining Hope Family,
“As a father shows compassion to his children, so the LORD shows compassion to those who fear him.” ~Psalm 103:13
This month, I (Rachel) am writing to share a closer look into Kalungi’s heart for the kids of Shining Hope. In so doing, may you catch a glimpse into the immense love God has for you!
• In the early days of our ministry, Kalungi worked multiple jobs to provide for the children, sometimes sleeping only a few hours each night. He did hard manual labor at construction sites, with tasks such as feeding the concrete mixer, unloading trucks, and steel bending. He also worked as a painter.
• What LOVE! This picture is worth a thousand words. Kalungi and Alvin, 2020.
While Kalungi may not be able to carry the kids anymore, like Diana in this 2018 picture, they continue to lift him up. The unbreakable love he has for them motivates him to keep going, even when things are tough.
• There is no better investment than sharing Jesus with the kids. Besides Bible teaching, Kalungi always takes time to listen to our children’s problems and give them Godly counsel.
This picture, from just last year, shows Scovia with a new Bible study book . . . and the joy of Jesus on her face!
• Towards the end of 2019, the Lord provided us with the resources to buy land and build our very own home. Kalungi hired skilled builders for its construction, but that didn’t stop him from working alongside them!
Our home’s foundation was built. Kalungi’s prayer for a spacious, healthier environment for our kids to grow up in was being answered. This picture represents the pure JOY he felt!
• Almost every weight, every heartache Kalungi deeply feels, has to do with the children—with others. He spends many sleepless nights praying, thinking, and planning for the future of our kids and ministry.
This is Kalungi’s favorite place to go to be alone with God when trouble overwhelms him. Even in “The Swamp,” God’s presence and promises abide.
You make this beautiful work in Uganda possible! Thank you so very much for being such an integral part of this ministry. While no human love can be perfect, Kalungi’s heart paints a beautiful picture of the Father’s love. If you’ve placed your faith in Jesus and His atoning death, He loves you. He loves you SO MUCH!
Rejoicing in my Father’s love,
Rachel
PS: We would be so grateful if you remembered Kalungi in your prayers. It’s been a difficult month with his beloved auntie dying and him falling sick, on top of the ongoing stressful situation with his business. He’s going through a tremendously hard time. Please pray for peace, comfort, and wisdom for Kalungi, and for the Lord’s miraculous provision in his business. Thank you, sincerely.
