Dear Shining Hope Family,

As the second term of school began on the 27th, a few of our kids wanted to share with you what made the previous term so special to them!

Wilber, Jonathan (top), Edrine, and Scovia:

Scovia’s Story

“I made a new friend named Jesca! She comes from northern Uganda and currently resides in Luwero with her aunty since it’s closer to the high school.

“She became my friend after I invited her to have lunch with me. She doesn’t have money for lunch. She loves God, and I think that’s why me and her bonded so fast.”

Wilber’s Story

“There is this giant boy whose name I don’t know in Senior 3. He used to bully me most of the time, calling me short and everything unpleasant.

“One evening we played soccer and we were on the same team. He passed me the ball and I scored, and he immediately ran and hugged me! This was the best feeling. From then on, he stopped bullying me. Whenever we cross paths, he now says ‘hello.’”

Cedric’s Story

“My teacher gifted me with a pair of socks and a cup and plate that I use at school because I was very active in her class. This motivated me to place top of the class in performance!”

Maureen’s Story

“My time at school was really a blessing this past term as I felt new all over. When Pastor Peter prayed for us at the start of the term, I felt like everything about me had changed, and I just couldn’t wait to be in class!

“At school, I reunited with all my school friends, and none of them had dropped out due to lack of school fees.”

Besides the joys of back to school and the Lord’s provision of tuition, one of the best moments this month was when our monthly budget for May was covered. The Lord continues to be so faithful to us and to all the precious children we serve! Despite living donation to donation of late and Kalungi’s ongoing court appearances, our confidence remains steadfast in our good God.

This adorable neighbor girl takes comfort holding onto Nakiranda’s skirt as she fills her hungry tummy:

In closing, Kalungi has a very important question for you: “Do you know how much you do when you support Shining Hope?”

Oh, it goes far beyond food or education!

It’s sharing lunch with a girl who can’t pay.

It’s befriending a bully.

It’s exemplifying compassion.

It’s cultivating a heart that thinks of others.

It’s a sanctuary to a child living in a broken home.

It’s healing.

It’s home.

It’s family.

It’s love.

It’s God’s love.

THIS is the impact you make through the power of God working through you! Thank you—tremendously—for loving and supporting Shining Hope! Only the Lord can truly reward you.

Much love,

Kalungi + Rachel
