Double the Blessing!

Dear Shining Hope Family,

Meet Kato and Babirye, two inseparable twins! These precious blessings come to our home each day for lunch.

Kalungi shares: “I’ve seen them grow from birth to now. Their mother was abandoned by their father during her pregnancy, and that’s when she came to our village where she has an elder relative. She couldn’t afford to go to the hospital, so she gave birth to them from home. I congratulated her with a small contribution to buy them clothes.

“She had to go to the Middle East after to look for work so that she can care for them, but to date, her relative hasn’t heard from her. Thanks to the kindness of our donors, children like these two do not starve or feel abandoned.”

Please join us in praying for their mama to be able to return home soon to her babies. Your prayers and financial support in the lives of children like Kato and Babirye are PRICELESS!

INTERESTING FACT: Did you know that in Uganda, twins are given special names based on their gender and which baby was born first?

Two boys: Wasswa (firstborn) and Kato

Two girls: Babirye (firstborn) and Nakato

A boy and a girl, with the boy being firstborn: Wasswa and Nakato

A boy and a girl, with the girl being firstborn: Kato and Babirye

Twins are most commonly known by these special names, but they do have other names. For instance, Kato and Babirye are Josh and Sarah!

Unfortunately, Nakato will need surgery, unlike what was anticipated earlier. The doctor discovered that her eardrums are damaged; they have tiny holes in them. On May 3rd, she has an appointment where they will discuss more about this surgery and schedule it.

Meanwhile, she is continuing to do well and isn’t having any pain. Praise God! The weeks of medications and daily checkups were so vital. However, she is feeling a bit anxious about the operation. THANK YOU so much for keeping her in your prayers and asking the Lord to bless her surgery!

Something else is happening on the 3rd . . . and it’s a lot more fun than surgery! Our children’s first term of school is coming to an end! Can you believe it? These weeks just passed like that!

Back in time! Enjoy watching our kids being enrolled in primary school this past February. So grateful for the opportunity you are giving them to learn!

Here is a fun little story about our high schoolers! Jonathan, Scovia, and Edrine keep talking about how they are grown-ups who wear trousers and skirts to school, instead of the shorts and dresses they wore in primary school.

Primary school . . . and high school!

Recently I (Rachel) started a practice of writing down answers to prayer to remind my heart in the dark seasons of God’s faithfulness. (If you don’t already, I highly recommend it!) Here is an entry I wrote this April:

“Our needs this month are 100% funded for the second month in a row! And not only that, but we received a generous gift for May that we can use either for food, Nakato’s surgery, or school fees! Lord, I was feeling so overwhelmed by these needs, but You lifted the burden from off my shoulders. You are so gracious. You are so good, so kind, so merciful. THANK YOU for this answer to prayer—and thank You for Who You are!!!”

DOUBLE THE BLESSING! The Lord provided for all our needs through our support family (for the second month in a row!), AND His provision is overflowing into May. You were a part of this!!! Thank you so very much for pouring out the Lord’s blessings upon us. May He repay you with a double portion.

Counting our blessings,

Kalungi + Rachel

PS: Speaking of blessings in double . . . this video of Kato and Babirye enjoying a meal is ADORABLE! Love their chubby cheeks, big brown eyes, and tiny hands.
