“I Was Given Another Chance to Live.”
Kalungi Robert, founder of Shining Hope for the Vulnerable, was born with a condition that needed urgent medical attention.
“Because I was born to poor parents, they were unable to finance the surgery I needed. My parents had lost hope, thinking they were about to lose their baby.”
In this time of crisis came a special person who felt sorry for the innocent baby and the parents' tears.
“He catered for my medical bills, and I was given another chance to live.
“Hearing this story growing up greatly inspired me to help others. It was the only way I could give back to the person who helped me, as I never had the chance to meet him and say thank you. And I wanted to serve the Lord with the life He had blessed me with. I prayed, asking God what I could do.
“That’s when Shining Hope for the Vulnerable was born.”
In 2016, 20-year-old Kalungi took the first step towards helping needy children.
He rented a home from an elderly lady and took in six young children who had been left orphaned.
Kalungi worked tirelessly as a construction worker, giving his earnings to care for the children. And over the months, Kalungi opened the doors of the home and extended his love and compassion to many more kids.
Being the sole provider, it was becoming increasingly difficult to provide for their growing needs. In late 2017, Kalungi joined Facebook, seeking to raise support for his little band of precious orphans.
Two months later, he met Rachel, from the USA, on Facebook.
"Meeting Kalungi was an answer to my prayers! I suffer from a chronic illness that greatly limits me. I had been asking God for a friend and that He would use me to make a difference somehow.
God answered both of my prayers in Kalungi!
“We became best friends, and my bed quickly became my office. My jobs include raising awareness through social media, processing donations, and replying to emails.”
Now, as a team, we passionately work towards bettering Uganda’s needy.
Our heart’s desire and prayer is that God would use us to touch and transform their lives. And just as Kalungi was helped as a young boy, our prayer is that we would start a chain reaction of people who reach out and help others,
creating an endless chain of transformed lives.
By God's grace, this is our story.
But it doesn't end here.
Our story continues with you!
Be part of our story.
